Glaciers not melting?

Proof of global warming or simply part of the campaign to demonize dissenters? Apparently glaciers are not melting so fast after all. Will Al Gore make an announcement, send out press releases and have a press conference to announce that glaciers are not undeniable proof of global warming?

So, since being able to say glaciers were melting at an advanced rate somehow proved that global warming is real and human induced, does the the reverse hold true as well? Surely not. Any evidence against human caused global warming is heresy. Glaciers are still melting. SUV are still to blame. (But not private and public jets.)

Greenland isn’t melting as fast as we feared.

It was big news when the rate of melting suddenly doubled in 2004 as ice sheets began moving more quickly into the sea. That inspired predictions of the imminent demise of Greenland’s ice — and a catastrophic rise in sea level. But a paper published online this afternoon by Science reports that two of the largest glaciers have suddenly slowed, bringing the rate of melting last year down to near the previous rate. At one glacier, Kangerdlugssuaq, “average thinning over the glacier during the summer of 2006 declined to near zero, with some apparent thickening in areas on the main trunk.” ~nytimes.com

Al Gore where are you? Probably still showing stick footage of glaciers breaking off and falling into the ocean and proclaiming global warming a greater threat than Osama Bin Laden. A clash of civilizations?

He showed photos of rapidly melting glaciers in Antarctica and said that if half of Greenland and half of west Antarctica melted away, it would have a devastating effect on rising sea levels. Parts of Florida would be covered in water, he said. New Orleans would be virtually nonexistent and the future World Trade Center memorial in New York would be under water.

“Is it only terrorists that we’re worried about? Is that the only threat that is worth our attention?” Gore said. “We are witnessing a collision between our civilization and the Earth.”  ~sfgate.com
