Victory and defeat in Iraq

Never in question. Except among the perfidious and faithless.

The surge is succeeding. Moqtada Al Sadr is in hiding and his militia rounded up. Insurgents are on the run. This is what Democrats call failure.

Their own plan in contrast is something else altogether. Unconcerned about the foregone conclusion in Iraq, Democrats see $$ dollar signs. The Pelosi/Murtha plan to ‘end the war’ by slow-bleeding the troops now has enticements for votes. We normally call this pork, but that would be the wrong term to describe Democrats. The eternal virgins, democrats claim to have never been touched by any sort of corruption, by definition they never engage in pork.

The Pelosi Plan for Iraq
It makes perfect sense, if the goal is winning votes in the United States.

THE RESTRICTIONS on Iraq war funding drawn up by the House Democratic leadership are exquisitely tailored to bring together the party’s leftist and centrist wings.

…And there are plenty of enticements on the side: more money for wounded veterans, for children’s health, for post-Hurricane Katrina reconstruction.

The only constituency House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ignored in her plan for amending President Bush’s supplemental war funding bill are the people of the country that U.S. troops are fighting to stabilize. ~washingtonpost.com

Captain’sQuarters blog illuminates the victory going on in Iraq:

The seven hundred Mahdis are only the tip of the iceberg. The White House estimated that 16,000 other insurgents are held by US and Iraqi forces as well, making this sweep an early success. In fact, the burgeoning numbers of detainess require the US to send more military police to guard them.

…Petraeus appears to be on the right track and gathering momentum. Congress represents the only real long-term obstacle to success.   ~captainsquartersblog.com
