Protesting the sun’s rising

If you have a working intelligence, “Protesting the sun’s rising,” should sound like an ignorant statement. But then so should the phrase, “Thousands Protest Climate Change Across the Country.” –the title of an actual article.

Today, 1,400 actions are taking place in all 50 states in the country’s largest protest against global warming. ~alternet.org

Of course it makes perfect sense when you realize that they are not protesting the seasons or the laws of physics. They are protesting a political system. They are protesting capitalism.

ALL THE evidence suggests that global warming is caused overwhelmingly by burning fossil fuels such as oil. Despite the looming threat of worldwide catastrophe, the occupation of Iraq shows that the US government is determined to control the world’s oil in order to secure it as a long-term source of energy.

Not for the first time, US President George W Bush has made it absolutely clear that the profits of the big corporations, particularly oil companies like ExxonMobil, come first. ~socialistparty.org.uk

This is the quintessential global warming argument. As well as the overwhelming leftist sentiment about Iraq. “It’s a war for oil.”

But Al Gore won’t go into the rest of the global warming propaganda– the solution to be implemented once the ball is rolling downhill and practically impossible to stop.

Global warming is an important issue for socialists and anti-capitalists, not only for the obvious reason that we have a long-term interest in the future of the planet, but because the poor are hit hardest by its effects.

Also democratic socialist planning, although never mentioned in the mainstream eco-debate, is the answer to the environmental destruction wreaked by the capitalist market system. ~socialistparty.org.uk

Oh yeah, that’s right, “democratic socialist planning, although never mentioned in the mainstream eco-debate, is the answer to the environmental destruction wreaked by the capitalist market system.”

Is it obvious that democratic socialist planning is the answer to global warming? Of course it is.

In order to curb the process of global warming there must be a change in the means of energy production on a world scale, from oil and coal to more efficient sources such as solar power. If no societal restrictions were placed on human development, this in itself would certainly be a solvable problem. Already the basic technology exists that would allow for such a change. In a capitalist society, however, the main stimulus for change is not concern for human or environmental welfare, but rather the continual drive for profit.  ~wsws.org

It’s so simple.
