Dems victory: Vietnam

Harry Reid perfectly articulates the Democrat policy of defeat and retreat. I’d prefer Kerry for the nuance, but hey…

The war in Iraq “is lost” and a US troop surge is failing to bring peace to the country, the leader of the Democratic majority in the US Congress, Harry Reid, said Thursday. “I believe … that this war is lost, and this surge is not accomplishing anything, as is shown by the extreme violence in Iraq this week,” Reid told journalists. ~breitbart.com

The war is lost. Our soldier can accomplish nothing. Defeat and retreat.

Reid frames the Iraq war in terms he fully expects will ensure future Democrat electoral victories: Iraq is Vietnam.

But Reid drew a parallel with former US president Lyndon Johnson who decided to deploy more troops in Vietnam some 40 years ago when 24,000 US troops had already been killed.

“Johnson did not want a war loss on his watch, so he surged in Vietnam. After the surge was over, we added 34,000 to the 24,000 who died in Vietnam,” Reid said. ~breitbart.com

For Democrats to win, our Armed Forces must surrender to the Democrat time machine. Siagon. Tet. My Lai. Khe Sanh. Surrender and humiliating defeat are the liberals best hope.

And as others have already pointed out, Reid contradicts himself after just having declared the war is lost. But what at first appears to be a contradiction actually is not. He says the war can yet be won! Where our soldiers have failed, Reid believes that his cadre of politicians can succeed. The victory belongs to politicians! Imagine the ego. Imagine the self-centeredness that produces this statement.

“I believe the war at this stage can only be won diplomatically, politically and economically.” ~breitbart.com

Of course! Soldiers are useless. They cannot win these battles. But Democrats have a plan to produce victory! It’s diabolical. Defeat is victory and victory is defeat.

Gateway Pundit points out that Reid and Al Qaeda speak with the same voice:

In a new video posted Thursday on the Internet, an al-Qaida militant who escaped from a U.S. prison in Afghanistan urged Sunni militants in Iraq to join the terror group and claimed the U.S. military’s security plan for Baghdad has failed.   ~abcnews.go.com
