May 15, 2009 at 11:33 PM EDTMONTREAL — Anyone who has ridden an escalator and bothered to pay attention has seen – and likely ignored – little signs suggesting riders hold the grimy handrail.
In Montreal’s subway system, the friendly advice seems to have taken on the force of law, backed by a $100 fine.
Bela Kosoian, a 38-year-old mother of two, says when she didn’t hold the handrail Wednesday she was cuffed, dragged into a small holding cell and fined.
“It was horrible, disgusting behaviour [by police],” said Ms. Kosoian, a 38-year-old student of international law. “I did nothing wrong. They should go find the guys who stole my tires off the balcony.” ~theglobeandmail.com
First of all the term torture is used by liberals entirely too liberally. Loud music, sleep deprivation, and even waterboarding are not torture in the classic and visceral sense the word is meant to convey. But Pelosi and the democrats, in their utter dishonesty, have painted themselves into a torturous corner.
As Karl Rove explains, Nancy Pelosi is an accomplice to ‘torture’ by her own words. She was fully informed on the use of ‘enhanced interrogation’ techniques that she and her Democrat cronies then tried to use as a political cudgel to smear the Bush administration as torturers and criminals. The problem is that Pelosi and the Democrats were in the loop the entire time. Not only that but they put their stamp of approval on it in person by their implicit and explicit affirmation and encouragement to do more.
What is even more delicious is that all the self-righteous posturing by the One, in depicting Bush and his administration as bloodthirsty and lawless torturers for their war on terror policies, such as Guantanamo, enhanced interogation, and indefinite detention have now had to quietly affirm all these policies as useful and even necessary for national security.
The past eight years of outright lies and slander coming from Democrats and Pelosi in particular seem to be tripping her up yet again. But of course every one else is a liar in her world. The blame is always somewhere else.

The One. Air Force One, that is… flying low over New York City reenacting 911 for the pleasure of Barack Hussein Obama.
A White House aide joined the unemployment lines today for his role in Air Force One’s controversial photo-op flyover above New York, the Obama administration just announced. (Of course, it’s scheduled for a Friday afternoon.)
In a statement, the White House said President Obama accepted the resignation of military office director Louis Caldera. Caldera, a former Army secretary, took responsibility for the Air Force flyover that sparked 9/11-echo panic in lower Manhattan on April 27.
What the White House wanted was the photo above. What it got at first was the one down below at the bottom, from frightened New Yorkers’ cameras and cellphones.
The political cost can’t yet be calculated. Obama supporters won’t care. But the fact is against advice from the outgoing Bush administration, Obama’s team changed Caldera’s White House job classification from a career military officer to a political appointee. Now, we’ll see which way they go with the second appointment to the office since Jan. 20.

Carrie Prejean is being savagely attacked for voicing the majority opinion of Californians who have voted twice to outlaw gay marriage per se. She should be applauded and defended.

…Not surprisingly, the Political Class sees things a lot differently. While 85% of Mainstream Americans say the government has too much power and money, just two percent (2%) of the Political Class agree. Nearly one-our-of-four members (24%) of the Political Class, in fact, believe the government has too little money and power, but 68% say it has about the right amount of each.
While slightly more than half of those working for both the government and private industry say the government is too big, 79% of entrepreneurs feel that way.

This is fundamentally a conservative country despite the election of a socialist leaning administration. So will the Obama adminstration continue their drive toward socializing America. No doubt they will.
Obama, it is now certain, intends to usher in a new era of tight government control of every aspect of our lives.
The left wants to shoehorn us all into the vision of their socialist utopia.
