Watching the children

Are we citizens or subjects?

Can you go to jail for watching your neighbors kids at the bus stop in front of your house to make sure nothing happens to them? Yes children, as subjects of the Michigan nanny state you just might.

A West Michigan woman says the state is threatening her with fines and possibly jail time for babysitting her neighbors’ children.

Lisa Snyder of Middleville says her neighborhood school bus stop is right in front of her home. It arrives after her neighbors need to be at work, so she watches three of their children for 15-40 minutes until the bus comes.

The Department of Human Services received a complaint that Snyder was operating an illegal child care home. DHS contacted Snyder and told her to get licensed, stop watching her neighbors’ kids, or face the consequences.

“It’s ridiculous.” says Snyder. “We are friends helping friends!” She added that she accepts no money for babysitting. ~wzzm13.com

The difference between a nation of subjects and a nation of citizens is that the authority of the state is supposed to dwell in and be derived from the citizens. Subjects, on the other hand, have no authority. They must obey or beg for permission to exercise their ‘rights’.

This erosion of liberty is all done ‘for our own good’ or ‘for the children’ of course.

A DHS spokesperson would not comment on the specifics of the case but says they have no choice but to comply with state law, which is designed to protect Michigan children. ~wzzm13.com

Subjects must ask for permission from our benevolent officials who watch over us for our own good. On the other hand, citizens can agree to do all kinds of things. Dangerous things. Risky things. The difference between a subject and a citizen is the definition of government itself. A government made up of citizens derives it’s power from the citizens. We are the government.

The philosophy of government for subjects is that our rights are given to us by government. What is given by government can just as easily be taken away by government.

We are indoctrinating subjects who will accept the arbitrary rules of the ‘officials’ who act more like the politburo or the local workers council:

An East Valley eighth-grader was suspended this week after he turned in homework with a sketch that school officials said resembled a gun and posed a threat to his classmates. ~eastvalleytribune.com

Through Healthcare reform and Environmental law like Cap and trade soon the nanny state will be monitoring every aspect of your life to see if you are violating any rules, regulations, or edicts — like how many calories you are intaking, or how big your carbon footprint is. Mileage tax using mandatory GPS in every vehicle. This will lay any and every action you take, from the littlest to the biggest under the watchful eye of our benevolent parental officials.

Subject or citizen?

Are we citizens in a free country or subjects made to serve the rule of those in power?

My political philosophy is simple. Government is not my master. It is not my parent, my lord, my savior, or my nanny. What it should be is the protector of my freedoms and gaurantor of my right to choose the path I walk in life. I demand the right to believe and choose as I will not as a government official chooses for me.

In this respect I am a libertarian. Government must be limited in order to preserve the liberty of individuals. This is a defining element of our political heritage, the very foundation of American democracy. But it is not anarchy. There can be no liberty in anarchy. You must have limited government. A balance between controls and freedoms.

But what is government itself but the greatest of all reflections on human nature? If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: You must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place, oblige it to control itself. A dependence on the people is no doubt the primary control on the government; but experience has taught mankind the necessity of auxiliary precautions.

James Madison, Federalist Paper No. 51

Unfortunately, our country is becoming a place where every moment of your life will be proscribed, examined, probed, and controlled. Government control of Healthcare will greatly accelerate this trend.

Through the control of Healthcare the Federal government will then have entree to begin regulating the heath of those recieving the benefits of Federal healthcare. The decisionmaking power passes from individuals to the government. When you are to go to the doctor will no longer be a matter of choice but a matter of law. What you eat and how often you exercise will no longer be a choice but a matter of law with the attending punishments for disobedience.

We are already bombarded by local and state governments who see no problem in regulating anything no matter how small the activity or how intrusive the enforcement would be – often in complete disregard for any sense of what civil rights are. Believe me, I live in California.

When politicians speak of an era of responsibility they speak with the forked tongue of Orwell’s Big Brother. What they mean is that more nannystate is on the way. They believe we are their children, to be guided, led, and scolded as they see fit.

When it comes to greenhouse-gas emissions, Energy Secretary Steven Chu sees Americans as unruly teenagers and the Administration as the parent that will have to teach them a few lessons.

Speaking on the sidelines of a smart grid conference in Washington, Dr. Chu said he didn’t think average folks had the know-how or will to to change their behavior enough to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions.

“The American public…just like your teenage kids, aren’t acting in a way that they should act,” Dr. Chu said. “The American public has to really understand in their core how important this issue is.”  ~blogs.wsj.com

This is not the change we have been waiting for.

It’s God’s will

Govt. takeover of Healthcare is God’s will! To oppose it is to oppose morality itself. So sayeth Obama, We are God’s partners in matters of life and death.

Yeah verily, all those who oppose God’s will are immoral, liars, racists, Nazi’s, evil-mongers, and terrorists. Oh, and also un-American. …You could almost laugh off this kind of extreme slander if it didn’t belie an even more insidious agenda.

There are so many things wrong with this Healthcare takeover that it is hard to overstate the danger. Putting the Federal government in charge of our healthcare? What could go wrong?

The End Goal

Democrats (the left) want a totally government controlled heathcare system from beginning to end. They can’t deny it because they’ve been saying it on record for years. It’s in print and speeches by elected and unelected Democrats, advocates, activists, community organizers, party officials, billionaire astro-turf funders, bloggers, and the like, all demanding and extolling a single payer government takeover of healthcare.

The Deception

The plan, i.e. Healthcare reform, is meant to eliminate private insurance over time and end up with a government Healthcare monopoly. Just watch and hear it in their own words: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZ-6ebku3_E

Thus Obama’s reform is predicated entirely on lies and deception. The problem that Democrats have is that they know they don’t have the support to get there in one mighty step– they dare not have an honest debate about single payer or national Healthcare. They would lose.

Instead we have Obama lying everyday on national television about how no one wants to take away your current coverage. On the one hand this is a crisis of epic proportions that requires swift and radical action but on the other hand you can keep everything exactly they way it is (if you’re happy with your current coverage, and until we decide to take it away). Shouldn’t people be leaping to get government coverage?

One Hundred Percent True Lies

Healthcare will fund abortions. (Period.)

Death Panels, a.k.a. mandatory end-of-life counseling for the aged and infirm. This is merely a part of healthcare rationing. In other words, ‘cost cutting’. Most of the cost of healthcare comes at the end-of-life. Government provided healthcare will encourage that you do your part and make sure you do not unduly burden the system. It’s called sacrifice. Apparently we need more of it. We’re all in this together! Your right to die.

Obama promised that his plan will ‘cut costs’. (Goodbye grandma.)

The High Cost of God’s Plan

This Healthcare takeover scheme will bankrupt America.

Does the cost really matter? I mean with 9 trillion dollars in deficit spending (and rising) already what’s another open ended gaping money hole going to matter? I mean really. It’s just money. We can print more.

Obama bankrupting America, there's some change for ya.

Unconstitutional

Lastly, the Federal government has no power to enact socialized medicine. But I’m sure that they will try anyway.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. — C.S. Lewis

Speaking truth to power

What right do ordinary citizens have to protest the Federal takeover of the Healthcare industry? For that matter, why would anyone show up at town hall meetings with their elected representatives to protest the policies of the Obama-Pelosi-Reid government? Answer: They have every right.

The simple truth is that a majority of Americans don’t want the Federal government taking over the Healthcare industry. They have been watching a one-party government attempting to rush passage of all their radical policies as quickly as possible, with as little debate or scrutiny as possible. The end result of which will be a fundamentally different America than the one they grew up in and believe in.

Concession: They won the election. They have the power.

Even though they have the power they do not have the support of a majority of voters. I think this is why there is now a deceitful, concerted and organized attempt to smear anyone who dissents with their policies.

Interviewer: Do you think there’s legitimate grassroot opposition going on here?

Pelosi: “I think they’re Astroturf… You be the judge. “They’re carrying swastikas and symbols like that to a town meeting on healthcare.”  ~wizbangblog.com

And yet there is no evidence of ‘astroturfing’. Quite the opposite:

ABC’s Steven Portnoy reports:

There were no lobbyist-funded buses in the parking lot of Mardela Middle and High School on Tuesday evening, and the hundreds of Eastern Maryland residents who packed the school’s auditorium loudly refuted the notion that their anger over the Democrats’ health care reform plans is “manufactured.”

“I went to school in this school,” a man named Bob told me. “I don’t see anyone in this room that isn’t from Mardela Springs right now.”

“We’ve been quiet too long,” said a woman named Joan.

They came to yell at their congressman, freshman Democratic Rep. Frank Kratovil, and they were surprised to hear that the “Congress in Your Corner” event to which they had been invited — by a robocall from Kratovil himself — was not to be a public airing of grievances, but instead an opportunity for private, one-on-one sessions with the freshman Democrat.

As the crowd grew, and began venting frustration over the fact they would only be meeting with the congressman behind closed doors, Kratovil’s aides suggested he switch to a town hall format.  ~blogs.abcnews.com

The truth is that Democrats have a majority in congress partially because they won elections in conservative districts. Conservative voters in these districts are now wondering why they voted to put ultra-liberal Nancy Pelosi in power.

Kratovil is a Blue Dog Democrat who signed onto a letter last month urging House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to delay a vote on a health care reform bill until after the August recess. His officially “undecided” stance on health care reform makes him a prime target for frustrated constituents already miffed that he voted for the House Democratic leaders’ energy bill last month, after initially telling voters he was “undecided” on Cap and Trade.

The former county prosecutor won his seat – formerly held by a Republican — last November by just 2,852 votes.

Boos and cries of “You don’t get it!” were hurled at Kratovil, as he suggested that the current health care system needed to be fixed.

“You’re deceiving us! You’re trying to shove this stuff through,” one woman yelled.

“I’m not! But I hear you,” Kratovil pleaded.

“This bill is un-American,” said another voter, who asked whether Kratovil has read it.

“I am reading it right now,” he said.

In an interview before the session, Kratovil admitted he’s under heavy pressure from both the constituents in his conservative-leaning district and his party’s leadership, but, alluding to his vote on Cap and Trade, he said he’s already cast unpopular votes.  ~blogs.abcnews.com

Is there any reason to smear these people as white supremicists? People who ostensibly helped to give Nancy Pelosi her position of power? Only if you cannot bear to be disagreed with. Only if you cannot stand dissent.

Those in power are miffed that these people are speaking up and have claimed that it’s all an evil GOP orchestrated conspiracy campaign with no real support whatsoever. An organized protest is an illegitimate protest. Which is apparently why the White House is calling on their supporters to report dissenters and Democrats are calling on Labor Unions to send in the counter protesters. But does that mean they will only use union thugs members from the districts these town halls are in or will they be busing them in from all over to show a massive response? *Sigh*

Is there any appreciation of the fact that a community organizer is accusing protesters of being illegitimate because they are ‘organized’?

Concession 2: What will be will be; you have to let everything play out.

Treating Americans as the enemy will ultimately come back to haunt the left and the Obama-Pelosi-Reid government. Obama’s approval ratings continue to slide as he tries to implement his agenda, which is different from what he wanted many to believe during the election when he was promising tax cuts for 95% of all Americans. It might have been profitable to play coy about how liberal his true agenda was during the campaign but eventually if he wants to implement that agenda the truth becomes apparent. What you do when people start noticing this contradiction is what is happening now, deny it and blame those who recognize it and have the temerity to point it out.

Poll Shows Perils for Obama’s Health Overhaul

In the Quinnipiac survey, 55% (including 54% of the key independent voter bloc) said they were more concerned that the overhaul would increase the deficit than that Congress would not pass some kind of overhaul. That same 57% (and 59% of independents) disagreed with the following statement: “Overhauling the nation’s health care system is so important that it should be enacted even if it means substantially increasing the federal budget deficit.”

The poll also contains another piece of the public opinion puzzle that Mr. Obama and the Democratic congressional leadership may find problematic: Voters by a large margin don’t want a health care overhaul if it can only garner Democratic votes. In other words, even though Democrats control both houses of Congress, voters are suspicious of a bill that only has Democratic support.

The poll found 59% of the public disagreed (and only 36% agreed) with the following statement: Congress should approve a health care overhaul even if only Democrats support it.” ~blogs.wsj.com

They have the power but they don’t have the full support of the American people. Contrary to what the left seems to feel these days Conservatives are still a part of America. The question is, with all the fervor the left is expressing will they choose to be moderate, as they always claimed they were, or will they choose to eliminate the opposition? This latest attack on protesters is not a good sign.

Foodcare Reform

I’ve made the argument that it makes as much sense for the government to take over the food supply as it does Healthcare. Alas, we all knew that they’d eventually get to that too– and it looks like they are beginning to get to it with HR 2749, the ‘Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009′.

Our friends (and I use the word loosely) Waxman and Dingle have come up with legislation that typifies the sort of overreach and ominous tyranny indicative of all the legislation they are coming up with in congress now that they are the only party in power.

The one thing we know about the era of Obama is that every aspect of our lives will ultimately be under the tight control of the government whether we want it or not– and it’s all for our own good!

But don’t take my word for it. Natural News declares that this bill requires immediate opposition, a blogger at foodfreedom describes it as, “Totalitarian Control of the Food Supply,” a DailyKos diary calls it fascist (truly it doesn’t take much to be called fascist at DailyKos but I thought I’d throw it in there), and Stop socialism now says, “Fed Takeover Of All Food Production Almost Done!”

Some of the disconcerting and dire provisions within the bill include:

- HR 2749 will require the mandatory imposition of annual registration fees in the amount of $500 upon any “facility” that holds, processes, or manufactures food. Even though “farms” are exempt, the bill’s definition of “farm” is so scarcely defined that folks selling cheeses, breads, and other products from their farms or at the farmers market would be required to pay this fee, potentially driving many small producers and start-ups out of business, especially during tough times.

- HR 2749 will give FDA the power to directly regulate the methods by which crops are raised and harvested, essentially handing complete and total control of every farming operation to the federal government.

- HR 2749 will give FDA the power to halt the movement of all food in a particular geographic area in the event of a food contamination scare or outbreak. The provision directly includes “prohibiting or restricting the movement of food or of any vehicle being used or that has been used to transport or hold such food within the geographic area”, effectively shutting down any and all local food sources, farmers markets, or cooperatives within that area, even if their products have no connection to the actual contamination source.

- HR 2749 will give limitless power to FDA to conduct random searches of the business records of small farmers and local food providers without a warrant or even the slightest hint of evidence that there has been any sort of violation. It essentially allows clear passage by the federal government into the private records of its choice with no requirement of probable cause or legitimate reason for doing so.

- HR 2749 will appoint the Secretary of Health and Human Services as the taskmaster in establishing a food tracing system that will require an extensive, convoluted system of tracking each item and ingredient from origin to distribution. Because the bill fails to outline the logistical procedures for how this complex task will be accomplished and how it will be paid for, it once again hands an unprecedented amount of power over to the federal government to control and tax as it sees fit in order to accomplish whatever arbitrary requirements it wishes to inflict upon our farmers and food producers.

- HR 2749 imposes grievous criminal and civil penalties, including fines of up to $100,000 for each violation, per individual, and up to 10 years in prison~naturalnews.com

Who’s worried about the patriot act now? We are rapidly approaching the point where literally nothing will be exempt from the power of the government to directly control, dictate, punish, and intervene without warrant or respect to constitutional rights. It will be an administrative matter.

Reducing undesirables

Is abortion really about reducing undesirable populations? A Supreme Court liberal recently slipped up and highlighted this fact, that historically, abortion has been an important part of the Eugenics movement.

Frankly I had thought that at the time Roe was decided, there was concern about population growth and particularly growth in populations that we don’t want to have too many of. So that Roe was going to be then set up for Medicaid funding for abortion. ~nytimes.com

Ginsburg redeems herself somewhat by going on to say that she realized she was wrong. But the fact remains that proponents of abortion today are advocating a form of birth control and not merely a medical procedure like an appendectomy. Abortion has it’s roots in the grisly and now disgraced Eugenics movement. The founder of planned parenthood, Margaret Sanger, was a huge proponent of eugenics.

Eugenics:

In the US eugenics successfully influenced three other policy areas: marriage regulation, sterilization of the unfit, and immigration restriction. By 1914 thirty states passed laws preventing marriage of the mentally handicapped and the insane, together with laws restricting marriage between people suffering a venereal disease, or between those from various categories of ‘feebleminded’. The first state sterilization law was passed in Indiana in 1907, and by 1917 fifteen other states had followed suit. Sterilization was legal for habitual criminals plus various categories of the insane, mentally handicapped, and epileptic. Eugenics in the US also provided ideological justifications for immigration restriction and the development of IQ testing. ~answers.com

Then there’s John Holden who brings back credibility to science for Obama.

In a book Holdren co-authored in 1977, the man now firmly in control of science policy in this country wrote that:

  • Women could be forced to abort their pregnancies, whether they wanted to or not;
  • The population at large could be sterilized by infertility drugs intentionally put into the nation’s drinking water or in food;
  • Single mothers and teen mothers should have their babies seized from them against their will and given away to other couples to raise;
  • People who “contribute to social deterioration” (i.e. undesirables) “can be required by law to exercise reproductive responsibility” — in other words, be compelled to have abortions or be sterilized.
  • A transnational “Planetary Regime” should assume control of the global economy and also dictate the most intimate details of Americans’ lives — using an armed international police force.

A new leftist era?

Obama and Chavez brother handshake

Obama and Chavez warm handshake

It certainly looks like Obama is handing over Central America to commie dictators. But then what do I know? On the other hand, Tom Hayden seems convinced. He seems to believe that Obama is in league with the commies in our southern hemisphere. At the very least he believes Obama is highly sympathetic to the cause of global communism. But maybe he just sees what he urgently hopes for.

Apparently, Obama and Chavez have had lengthy (friendly) talks.

According to eyewitness sources, under the apparently blind eye of the global media, the two leaders had lengthy conversations. The media covered the friendly photo of the initial handshake between the two leaders, then made much ado about an apparently-impertinent Chavez handing Obama a book in Spanish by Eduardo Galleano.

What has not been reported is that Obama, leaving his advisers behind, held lengthy private conversations with Chavez where only an interpreter was present.  ~tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com

Couple this with the fact that Obama has erroneously backed a leftist ally of Chavez who attempted to overthrow the constitution of Honduras and what you have is an apparent preference for 21st century socialism.

The idea that the left here in this country defends Obama and the would-be dictator Zelaya should be a caution. Is this something the left would approve of here in the US? The left views our own consitution as a, ‘flexible,’ ‘living document,’ that can be reinterpreted as they see fit for every ‘new era.’

Meanwhile Obama (and his news media) is silent about Chavez’s threats to invade Honduras to install Zelaya as a puppet of the new socialism. In fact, Chavez even printed the illegal ballots for Zelaya’s overthrow of the Honduras constitution.

What I think this reveals is that Obama is a stealth candidate whose purpose must remain mainly concealed from the general public because his true leftist policies would be completely rejected by a majority of Americans.

Thus Obama has to rely on doublespeak and alternating liberal and conservative messages about his policies. He says one thing while doing another. He claims to be for fiscal responsibility but then increases the deficit by a trillion dollars. He claims a, “fierce moral urgency,” in ending indefinite detention but then continues the policy. He claims not to be hostile to capitalism but then begins nationalizing the auto industry and begins the nationalization of the heath care industry.

Chavez, Zelaya, Castro, and Obama, captains of a new era.

Dissent is now terrorism

Behold the shifting sands of democrat definition. Dissent from current (The) One Party Rule is now unpatriotic traitorous terrorism. I thought dissent was the essence of patriotism? What happened?

“It appears that the Republican Party leadership in the Congress has made a decision that they want to deny President Obama success, which means, in my mind, they are rooting against the country, as well,” the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee chairman told WAMU radio host Diane Rehm on Tuesday morning, promoting his new book, “The Waxman Report.” ~politico.com

It gets better:

“They [Republicans] want to play politics and see if they can keep any achievements from being accomplished that may be beneficial to the Democrats. They’re rooting against the country and I think in this case, even rooting against the world because the world needs to get its act together to stop global warming.” ~realclearpolitics.com

Waxman isn’t the only one either. There is a sense that Democrats have forgot that they once felt that lying about and smearing your opposition was the embodiment of patriotism itself.

Far left writer Paul Krugman says opposing liberal policies is betrayal of the planet.

…but most rejected the bill because they rejected the whole notion that we have to do something about greenhouse gases.

And as I watched the deniers make their arguments, I couldn’t help thinking that I was watching a form of treason — treason against the planet. ~nytimes.com

Video of Pelosi saying Republicans are unpatriotic.

More video of Pelosi saying that Enforcing American immigration law is un-American and illegal immigrants are, “very, very patriotic.”
