The useful crisis

Global warming: the useful crisis that wasn’t.

It’s painfully clear now that Global warming was nothing more than a vehicle for international socialism. This kind of scaremongering is what the discredited religion of collectivism has been reduced to. Logic and reason contradicts the warmist so they become more and more religious in their fervor to impose drastic change upon our society. A society they already deem evil and immoral. Capitalism is the target.

“People [who] are alive today have been placed at a point in history that puts on us the burden of action that is almost unimaginable in the context of human history,” Gore said.

“We are the most powerful force of nature now. We are literally changing the relationship between the Earth and the Sun,” he said. “It has the capacity to bring civilization itself to a dead halt.” ~Al Gore, July 2008

Ditto, Mr. Surber. Ditto.

This says it all. ALL!

For two years now, I have been called ignorant, racist, angry and violent by the left. The very foul-mouthed protesters of Bush dare to now label my words as “hate speech.”

Last week, the left quickly blamed the right for the national tragedy of a shooting spree by a madman who never watched Fox News, never listened to Rush Limbaugh and likely did not know who Sarah Palin is.

Fortunately, the American public rejected out of hand that idiotic notion that the right was responsible.

Rather than apologize, the left wants to change the tone of the political debate.

The left suddenly wants civil discourse.

Bite me.   ~blogs.dailymail.com/donsurber

You should read it all. It sums up everything I’ve felt this last week.

Enemies of the revolution

I am finally, truly, afraid. Every day brings another stop on the express train to a totally different country. One in which the government will control every aspect of life. Changes so radical that, in a democracy such as ours, to force them at this pace and without the full consent of the governed amounts to nothing less than a coup.

What we have been inching towards is no longer enough for those in power. With progressive leftists in control of the White House and Congress they are pushing forward as fast as they can. Putting as much of the framework in place as they can while they still have power with the belief that what they put in place cannot easily be repealed or reversed. I am afraid they may be right.

The powers that Obama, Pelosi, and Reid are attempting to seize are dangerous and destabilizing. Essentially putting the final nails in the coffin of Federalism. The left sees only one-size-fits-all solutions implemented by a Federal monopoly from a top down autocracy.

I am afraid because I am powerless. I am at the mercy of the left and history shows that the left has no mercy for their political enemies.

Pontifex maximus

Obama’s Easter address? Are you kidding me? In the Roman Empire one of the title’s of the emperor was Pontifex Maximus. A title that the Pope assumed as well. Obama’s Easter address is a sign that Obama really does believe that he is a god not unlike the roman model where the citizens were obliged to treat their earthly ruler as if they were a living god.

Obama’s Easter Address — America’s pontifex maximus.

Obama’s Easter address: Retain values amid rancor

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Obama’s Easter address calls on people of all faiths, as well as non-believers, to embrace their common aspirations and “shared spirit of humanity.”

Obama used his weekly radio and Internet address Saturday to touch lightly on some of his administration’s priorities: expanding health coverage, creating jobs and improving education. But his comments were more spiritual than political in tone.

“On this Easter weekend,” he said, “let us hold fast to those aspirations we hold in common as brothers and sisters, as members of the same family — the family of man.” ~usatoday.com

Poverty of Results

There is a place in public policy for providing a safety net and for regulating commerce. But what the left has always wanted can never be. It just doesn’t work. Demonizing corporations as heartless bureaucracies while advocating every aspect of life be controlled by government monopoly is illogical and irrational. Nevertheless, that seems to be what Democrats are planning to do in fundamentally transforming America into a socialist state.

Democrats and the left seem unable to recognize that their policies need to be moderated (at the very least). Because enacting their full-scale ideological driven socialist state as fast as they can, while they still hold onto power, and against the wishes of at least half the population, is going to seriously disrupt this country, causing untold pain and adversity.

Entitlement programs do not create wealth or prosperity. They dilute it. Government control of health care will increase unemployment, drive up costs, create scarcity, and decrease the wealth of Americans. The more of the economy the government takes over the less there will be to divide and redistribute. Governments who follow these policies cripple their economies to the extent that they implement them. Just look at Greece for where we are headed.

Government control of Health Care

I guess what Pelosi said was true, we would only get the truth from them about this bill after it was passed. Obama admits it now, the truth… this bill is merely a first step toward a socialist system that will follow in the footsteps of Fidel Castro’s dictatorship:

So, yes, this is a common-sense bill.  It doesn’t do everything that everybody wants, but it moves us in the direction of universal health care coverage in this country and that’s why everybody here fought so hard for it.  ~whitehouse.gov

The promises about the efficiency and benefits of government monopolies are based on socialist ideology. In other words, pure fantasy. The claims made about this legislation are obvious to everyone. (62% Want GOP to Keep Fighting on Health Bill.) This is not going to create jobs and reduce the deficit. Quite the opposite. Ask yourself when any government program ever costs less than projected. Never. Ever. It always costs more.

Caterpillar Inc. said Wednesday it will take a $100 million charge to earnings this quarter to reflect additional taxes stemming from newly enacted U.S. health-care legislation.  ~online.wsj.com

Empty promises, naive pie-in-the-sky, or outright lies? Pelosi: Health Reform Will Create 400,000 Jobs “Almost Immediately”

A dire warning from Bay State medical-device companies that a new sales tax in the federal health-care law could force their plants – and thousands of jobs – out of the country has rattled Gov. Deval Patrick, a staunch backer of the law and pal President Obama.

“This bill is a jobs killer,” said Ernie Whiton, chief financial officer of Chelmsford’s Zoll Medical Corp., which employs about 650 people in Massachusetts. Many of those employees work in Zoll’s local manufacturing facility making heart defibrillators. ~bostonherald.com

At a time of economic downturn we are expanding government spending beyond what is sustainable. Entitlements like social security are already on the brink of insolvency, the budget deficit is now in the trillions, and Democrats and the left want to double down with more spending, more taxing, and more entitlements. The ideology of socialism has a firm hold on the Democrat party and they now have the power to take us from the slow half-measures of our venerable New Deal welfare state to a full-on re-distributive socialist state.

In an unusual speech on the Senate floor moments ago, Max Baucus declares that the “healthcare bill” to be “an income shift, it is a shift, a leveling to help lower income middle income Americans.” Baucus continued, “[t]oo often, much of late, the last couple three years the mal-distribution of income in America is gone up way too much, the wealthy are getting way, way too wealthy, and the middle income class is left behind. Wages have not kept up with increased income of the highest income in America. This legislation will have the effect of addressing that mal-distribution of income in America.” ~hughhewitt.com

Takeover agenda

What’s next? Well, I forgot to mention the Student Loan takeover in the Health Care bill. Cutting out private lenders from selling government backed loans. Expect some job losses in the banking sector from this as well.

Against the people

Al Sharpton explains that Obama’s Socialist transformation of America has truly begun:

“This began the transformation of the country that the President promised when he was elected,” Geraldo interrupts, “To socialism?” Sharpton: “First of all, then we’d have to say the American Public overwhelmingly voted Socialism when they elected President Obama.” ~YouTube.com

The fact is that Obama didn’t tell us the truth when he ran for president. He didn’t run as the socialist he is so what Sharpton suggests is wrong. America couldn’t have voted for socialism in electing him. Obama pretended to be a centrist interested in bipartisanship and promising tax cuts! Obama would have never won running on his true policy mission: something akin to a Hugo Chavez style transformation of America.

The heavy burden of taxation and control that this congress and President seek to put on American businesses and citizens will not result in prosperity. Democrats make the argument that higher taxes and higher spending will reduce the deficit and create jobs. The opposite is true. It will enlarge the government economy at the expense of the American economy. Unless you want to count the 16,500 new IRS enforcement agents to be hired to hunt down all the new criminals who may have failed to buy a government approved health insurance policy at the price the government sets.

Democrats Fundamental Transformation of America will, if fully enacted, result in the collapse of our economy. (79% fear US economy could collapse.) A good example is California. The same runaway spending, ever higher taxes, and Democrat special interest control will eventually bankrupt this state and the Federal government is being run in just the same manner.

Just the beginning

This healthcare bill has nothing to do with better healthcare. Pure and simple it is about controlling the people. It is a first step to universal healthcare. With its mandates, higher taxes, price controls, and far reaching arbitrary regulations this bill will result in destroying what’s left of healthcare. Once the heavy hand of government is through ‘fixing’ healthcare by destroying it, the next step will be proposed: outright nationalization.

Thank God that the left is finally brazen enough to come out and admit the truth. Democrat Rep. Dingle says that the purpose of their policies is in fact, “to control the people.”

Let me remind you this [Americans allegedly dying because of lack of universal health care] has been going on for years. We are bringing it to a halt. The harsh fact of the matter is when you’re going to pass legislation that will cover 300 [million] American people in different ways it takes a long time to do the necessary administrative steps that have to be taken to put the legislation together to control the people.  ~americanthinker.com

Against the people

Democrats claim that everyone loves this legislation. That a majority of Americans approve of and want this bill. But that is obviously the standard socialist propaganda. The left believes, as a tenet of their faith in government, that everything they do is for the people and that the capitalist-oppressed-masses are all for their socialist liberation. However, this isn’t true. Americans oppose this mess.

A CNN poll puts opposition to this Democrat takeover at a whopping 59%:

Washington (CNN) – A majority of Americans have a dim view of the sweeping health care bill passed by the House, saying it gives Washington too much clout and won’t do much to reduce their own health care costs or federal deficits, according to a new poll released Monday.

A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll found that 59 percent of those surveyed opposed the bill, and 39 percent favored it. All of the interviews were conducted before the House voted Sunday night, but the contents of the bill were widely known.

In addition, 56 percent said the bill gives the government too much involvement in health care; 28 percent said it gives the government the proper role and 16 percent said it leaves Washington with an inadequate role.  ~politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com

Democrats counter by saying that other polling is higher for individual items of reform so really the people are just confused about the messy ‘process’. Those poor ignorant masses will see what’s in the bill once it’s passed. Sadly, this is an unfortunate side effect of socialist

More destructive change coming…

If Democrats continue on this path and pass more of their socialist agenda to control America, like cap and trade, we will no longer be free, there will only be those who rule and those who are ruled. Government will be an ever present ‘parent’ guiding your every decision and controlling every choice. Between healthcare and the environmental power they seek there will be no limit on what will be controlled by the Federal Government. The constitution will cease to exist.

Once the government owns your healthcare they will decide how much you should exercise and what you eat. They will decide what treatments you receive. They will decide what medical research is necessary. They will eventually mandate all kinds of things like doctor visits.

Cap and trade covers everything we use energy for. Everything with emissions will potentially be under the control of the Federal government. How often you drive your car, and how far. How much energy and water you use in your home.

The left recognizes no limit on what is potentially under their direct control. They have no principles that would ultimately ensure your liberty in any area of life.

The cost

Spending trillions to save billions is logic that only congress could come up with. This new entitlement will require massive new taxes. There has never been an entitlement that cost what it was said to cost when the entitlement was enacted. We are headed toward national bankruptcy. They’ve spent all the money collected from social security, all that’s left are IOU’s. Democrats have a budget deficit this year in the trillions with no end in sight and their policy agenda is more and more spending and new entitlements.

The cost, my friends, will be our freedom.

Pelosi-style transparency

It’s like we should not question our rulers… just shut up thank them for taking care of us.

…You’ve heard about the controversies within the bill, the process about the bill, one or the other. But I don’t know if you have heard that it is legislation for the future, not just about health care for America, but about a healthier America, where preventive care is not something that you have to pay a deductible for or out of pocket. Prevention, prevention, prevention—it’s about diet, not diabetes. It’s going to be very, very exciting.

But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy… ~frugal-cafe.com

Efficient government?

It’s either an oxymoron or a euphemism for something else entirely. I think I like Harry Truman’s take on it: “Whenever you have an efficient government you have a dictatorship.”

Via Slashdot:

“Federal CIO Vivek Kundra described some dismaying government inefficiencies in a speech on Thursday at the University of Washington’s Evans School of Public Affairs in Seattle. It takes 160 days to process benefits for veterans, he said, ‘because the Veteran’s Administration is processing paperwork by passing manila folders from one desk to another.’ Another example bound to make you grind your teeth is why it takes the Patent and Trademark Office 3 years to process a patent. ‘One reason,’ says Kundra, ‘is because the USPTO receives these applications online, prints them out, and then someone manually rekeys the information into an antiquated system.’”  ~slashdot
